Call me Tracee:-)

The last time I washed my hair which was earlier this week on Tuesday, I did a roller set and sat under the hooded dryer for about 30 minutes before I went to bed. I've been wearing my hair in a bun all week and decided to leave my hair out today, I'm still having an issue with frizzies, but I'm feeling it.

Tracee Ellis Ross

My other obsession, Ms. Tracee Ellis Ross. I've been trying to get these milkmaid/goddess braids whatever you want to call them all summer, but I have not been able to perfect this style:-( I'm going to have to employ Checalyn Nimrod as my milkmaid/goddess braid stylist:-)

 Fabulous, wouldn't you agree?

My newest obsession; Ms. Amber Rose and Kanye West Sexiest Couple ever!

Okay so last night I watched Running Russell Simmons on the Oxygen channel and I think I fell in love with Amber Rose. Can you say BAAAD???! this chick is so baad I think I dreamed about her last night lol, I know weird right. Its official, this is my first female crush. I just love her style, her body is amazing and her appeal is captivating. She draws you in and, on top of it all, she was with my ideal guy Kanye West (he's so dreamy) I love him. Now that the sexy couple has broken up, its weird how obsessed I am over them they were probably the sexiest couple I've ever come across...

Can you say tomboy? I'm a tomboy too!
Jordans? too cute, I want a pair and I want a boyfriend to go with them too :-)
Anybody who knows me, knows that I hate shopping with a passion, Ms. Amber Rose actually inspires me to want to go shopping, I'm definitely feeling her fashion sense.

More Black Hair Inspiration

First Willow now Sesame Street? We're on a roll! He is the man responsible for the Muppet as well as the writer of the timeless inspiring song I love my hair. Joey Mazzarino's race is White/Caucasian and he is the father of a Black/African American girl. I really appreciate Joey for doing this song. We as Black/African Women spend all of our time focusing on what we want our hair to look like, rather than accepting the texture and quality of our own natural hair. It took me years to accept my natural hair because beforehand all I wanted for it was to be straight, and everybody else around me had it conditioned in their minds that straight hair was the only presentable way hair should be worn. Joey recognized a common struggle that has been around for centuries and is obviously still a struggle today among Black/African American girls and women. Being that Joey is not of Black/African American descent I think what he did is significant and worthy of the recognition that he has received thus far and more. He recognized this sad fact about black womens' self identity and did something positive in attempt to put an end to the negative view on Black girls'/womens' hair. While his intention may have been to improve the self esteem of his little girl, the message came across loud and clear to me and thousands more. For more details on this interview please  go to curlynikki.com.

I'm officially a cake decorator now!

Saturday was the last day for my basic cake decorating course, and I got a certificate of completion for the course so I'm officially a cake decorator now! Don't believe me? here is the proof:

My first rose cake:

As you can see, I still have to practice. So I'm going to take sometime to practice everything that I learned before I move onto the next course. I must say I am proud of myself for finishing something I started and, I'm so excited to see my progress in the near future!

It's been a while since I blogged. Don't have a major reason for not blogging, just been caught up with....life. Hopefully I'll have more things to blog about soon....I actually do have a couple of things to blog about but, I don't have a good camera to illustrate my doings, don't worry, a new camera is on my "to buy" list.

Roller set and flat ironed

I did a roller set and flat ironed my hair for the birthday celebration. First time I did this since May and completely perm free. I was thrilled with the results, my hair has definitely gotten thicker, it grew a lot more than I had predicted and it wasn't as uneven as I had thought after I did my self imposed big chop, so kudos to me for my not so bad cutting skills. Here are a few pics of how it turned out:
The birthday girl is the one with the big beautiful blue eyes:-)

The homie's bday cake!

So for the past couple of days I celebrated the homie's birthday and had a good time. I also baked her a birthday cake, it was my first decorated cake...don't laugh please:
Lol..it was my first decorated cake. The pen to write the frosting sucked, hopefully I get it right next time. I'll keep trying and will post my results so you can see my progress because there will be progress :-) I baked two other cakes this weekend, they were butter cakes with pecans and a bunch of goodies such as honey, cinnamon and brown sugar. I didn't take pics of them because they weren't decorated, so no biggie, the only thing you missed out on was how good they tasted...mmm...yummy!

Our Black is Beautiful!!!

I remember when Solange first debuted her TWA and, I remember thinking how brave and stunning she was for even going natural and cutting off all of her hair. Apparently her hair is growing back and she is still a natural diva, go Solange!
Miss Corrine Bailey Rae, this pic speaks for itself, I love her hair!
Miss Tracee Ellis Ross' hair speaks for itself, along with her exuberant personality to go with it!

Quote/Words of inspiration for today..."Honor my opinion of myself above all others"

"Honor my opinion of myself above all others"...I think this is the best advice anyone could give.
A lot of people waste too much time worrying about what others think, myself included. This is normal, it is a part of human nature and it only becomes sad if you are narcissistic (its not that serious, nobody cares that much about you).
Society lives and thrives off of what others think, that's how businesses do or do not flourish anyhow, my point is it is okay to value others opinions on certain things but, don't let other people's opinions overshadow your own thoughts or ideas you'll make yourself crazy trying to please others, and you would never know how valued your own thoughts might be. So, just do your own thing and who knows, your opinion could potentially be...The next BIG thinG!

Oh yeah...I did a flexi rod set this past weekend

Soooo, I went to Windsor *Konnekteecut*(inny) Connecticut with the homie Cheralyn and had a blasted good time, I'm surprised she hasn't posted the pics on her blog as yet, maybe she posted them on facebook.

Anyway I did a flexi rod set the night before we left to make my trip easy because I didn't want to have to worry about my hair...here is how it turned out:

No matter what I do with my hair, no matter how many products I put in it, frizzies are always an issue for me. It was cool though I was digging it for the time being, the frizzies started to get to me at one point...and I'm just plain sick of this length.

annoyed

I'm starting to get annoyed...feeling like my hair is going no where with all this caring and nurturing that I am doing to it. I feel like it stays the same length...or maybe I just need a change of style...idk.
Way too much TLC goes into maintaining and growing long healthy shiny beautiful hair. I've about had it, I'm about to cut it all off again.

New hair inspiration!

The one on the left is my new hair idol...I'm going to cross my fingers and hope and pray that my hair can be as bountiful and pretty as this one day.

Sean Bell's Family gets 3.25 million from the City...

Remember that shooting that took place back in 2006 in front of night club, where a young black man was shot 50 times by police officers on what was supposed to be his wedding day? Three out of the five officers who were responsible for the shootings were acquitted an the other two officers were not charged. Sean Bell's family has now been awarded 3.25 million dollars after a federal lawsuit was filed by his family. 3.25 million dollars as alot of money, and of course we already know that no amount of money can replace a life but lets not forget that this man was shot 50 times, has justice been served? what do you think... The New York Times has an article about the settlement: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/28/nyregion/28bell.html?_r=1&scp=2&sq=sean%20bell&st=cse

Quote for Today

You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life. By: Albert Camus

Perm Free!!!

So I did it, I cut the last of my permed ends off. I'm definitely no professional because my hair is uneven now:-( I'm a little disappointed about that, but at least all the perm is gone and I'm a full blown naturalista now:-)

Sick of trAnsiTioninG!

Seems like forever, I lost track but here is how my story goes. I was wearing my hair short ever since I graduated from high school, that was back in 2004. I think I cut my hair short in 2005, I don't really remember so let's just say I started wearing my hair short between 2004 and 2005.
I stopped cutting my hair and decided to let it grow out naturally in 2008 because, I hardly ever touched up my perms often and my hair was thin in my eyes. So I let it grow for a while on its own and once it got to that weird length I started wearing tracks and such occasionally, not often, probably two times and the rest of the time I just dealt with the weird lengths.

By May 2009 my hair was about chin length straightened with a flat iron (one thing I forgot to mention is that from 2008 to 2009 I flat ironed my hair on a weekly basis simply because I had no interest at all in wearing my hair in its natural state at that point).

In May 2009 my college graduation was approaching and I didn't want my hair to frizz up like a poofball on that day so I decided to perm my natural tresses for the big day nonetheless, my hair still poofballed because, the perm didn't get through fully on all of my strands but, it was poofy wit some style;-) because it looked decent for some strange reason.
In June 2009 I went to Florida for my bday we went on a water ride at Universal Studios and my sister from another mother Cheralyn Nimrod, noticed my hair in its natural state, she told me never to perm hair again...that was my first natural hair compliment as an adult (who knew?). From that point on I started paying a little bit more attention to wearing my hair in its natural state, and I gave the flat iron a rest temporarily.
Even though my curls showed I still had perm in there and, as my hair grew longer my permed strands became more noticeable and tacky looking:-( I refused to chop the permed ends off because, I wanted to see some length in my hair.

It is now July 2010 and I've trimmed my hair probably twice for the 2009-2010 time period and frankly, this transitioning thing is starting to annoy me. So, the moral of my story is...I'm cutting off all of my permed ends today:-D!

Positve Quote for today

Walt Disney said, "The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing." I like this quote, way too many people are out here on the streets "signing their shoulda' coulda' woulda's". We all have regrets and are guilty of wasting time talking about what we wish we could do. Once we find ourselves talking about it, that should be the point where we put our words to action. You know what NIKE said "just do it". Have a safe and blessed day.
